MELS picks up 4 nominations at 2017 Gala Québec Cinéma

Montréal, April 6, 2017 – MELS is proud to have received four nominations in two categories, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, for prestigious Iris trophies at the Gala Québec Cinéma film awards, which recognize excellence in Québec cinema and turn the spotlight on the industry’s talented professionals.

MELS professionals were nominated for their work on the following feature films:
•    In the Best Sound category, MELS received three nominations: for the movies Race (sound by Pierre-Jules Audet and Luc Boudrias of MELS and Claude La Haye); Two Lovers and a Bear (Bernard Gariépy Strobl of MELS, Claude Beaugrand and Claude La Haye); and Maudite poutine (Hans Laitres of MELS, Olivier Calvert and Stephen De Oliveira);

•    In the Best Visual Effects category, MELS was nominated for the remarkable film Race (the VFX team included Cynthia Mourou and Benoît Touchette of MELS, and Martin Lipmann).

Michel Trudel, President of MELS, was delighted by the latest distinctions for his team: “I am thrilled by these nominations. This recognition of our film production expertise highlights our company’s industry-leading creativity and the quality of our work. It strengthens Mels Studios and Postproduction’s stature as a key player in cinema and television, in Québec and internationally.”

MELS congratulates all the artists and professionals who worked on the nominated films and wishes them well at the awards.

This year, six new categories have been added in order to give more exposure to the people who make the films. To accommodate the new awards, the ceremony has been divided into two events: the Gala des artisans Québec Cinéma will be held on June 1 and the Gala Québec Cinéma on June 4. In all, 26 Iris awards will be handed out at the two ceremonies.
